Forfatteren av disse ordene er ikke egentlig Mor Theresa, men Kent Keith. Teksten ble opprinelig kallt "The Paradoxical Commandments". Mor Theresa redigerte teksten litt og la til noen flere "bud" fra Kent Keiths originale tekst og skrev disse ordene på en vegg på barnehjemmet sitt i Calcutta, India.
